Known Database Problems

The following are known problems, in chronological order, with accessing specific Library databases (and resolutions when applicable).  You can report further database problems using the Database Problem Report form or by calling Telephone Reference at (253) 292-2001 during normal library hours.

Saturday 9 June - Sunday 10 June, and Saturday 23 June - Corbis Images for Education will be unavailable from 7:00am June 9th to approximately 12:30am on June 10th, 2007, and again from 9:00am to 9:00pm on June 23rd, 2007. (Pacific) Thomson/Gale has indicated that these extensive downtimes are required to perform critical hardware updates. An outage notification page should display during these times.

Saturday 17 February 2007-Sunday 18 February 2007 - ProQuest will be taking a maintenance window to install infrastructure upgrades ensuring continued reliable performance. The 12-hour maintenance window will begin on Saturday February 17, 2007 at 22:00 EST (03:00 UTC/GMT) and run until Sunday February 18, 2007 10:00 EST (15:00 UTC/GMT).  All ProQuest products will be unavailable including ProQuest, ABI Inform, Washington Newsstand, etc.

Tuesday 2 January 2007 - Gale/Infotrac reports all databases are down as of 7:00 am this morning, and "our Internet service provider continues to work on restoring connectivity to our online products.  An estimated time of resolution is still unknown at this time.  We will continue to send updates every 30 minutes until the problem has been resolved." Resolution: Service restored at 1:40 pm.

Saturday 30 December 2006 - Dun & Bradstreet Million Dollar Database is requiring a user name and password and not working. D&B tech support is off for the holidays.  Resolution: a new version of D&B MDDI will be available on Wednesday 3 January that wil not require a login name or password. 

Saturday 30 December 2006 - Gale/Infotrac reports "We will be performing network maintenance and upgrades on Saturday December 30th, 2006 between 5:00am - 7:00am. (EST) During this window you may experience intermittent disruptions in accessing your online subscriptions.  We are not anticipating a system outage for the duration of this maintenance."

Sunday 17 December 2006 - ProQuest reports "This message serves as a reminder that the next ProQuest platform enhancement release is scheduled for the weekend.
ProQuest will be taking a maintenance window to install these enhancements. The 12-hour maintenance window will begin Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 22:00 EST (03:00 UTC/GMT) and run until Sunday, December 17 at 10:00 EST (15:00 UTC/GMT)."  Enhancements include: ProQuest Resource Linking

Saturday 4 November 2006 - Gale/Infotrac reports "There is a Corbis Images for Education outage scheduled for Saturday, November 4th, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. PST. The Corbis Images for Education website will not be accessible during this time.
Users will be directed to an outage notification page for the duration of the work.

Tuesday 29 August 2006 - Gale/Infotrac reports  "We are currently experiencing intermittent problems with Business and Company Resource Center.  This problem is only affecting subscribers of the Business and Company Resource Center database.  Please be advised that our Engineers are working to correct the problem as soon as
possible."  Resolution: Service was restored at 3:40 pm.

Wednesday 26 July 2006 - The Newsbank "America's Newspapers", the News Tribune and most specific Washington newspapers that appear in the A-Z list of databases in the OneSearch database are not returning results as of today.  The vendors are aware of the problem and working hard to resolve it.  In the meantime, you can either click directly on the "America's Newspapers" database link (or the individual newspaper title) and search for results in native mode, or choose the "Washington State Newsstand" database which will return results for many Washington newspapers.  As of 10:10 am, we do not know when this problem will be resolved. Resolution: service was restored by 3:30 pm.

Sunday 16 July 2006 - ProQuest maintenance window  Proquest databases will be unavailable during a maintenance window that extends from Saturday, July 15th, from 22:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m EST.  New features to be installed include spell-checking of search terms.

Tuesday 6 June and Wednesday 7 June - OneSearch not searching TopCat  The OneSearch cross-database searching system is not currently searching the Library catalog successfully.  The vendor has identified the problem and is working on it, and hopes to have it working again as soon as possible. 

Wednesday 3 May - ProQuest maintenance window  "We have discovered an unanticipated opportunity to enhance the ProQuest® online
information system that will improve performance and further enhance ProQuest's
reliability. To install these modifications, we are scheduling a maintenance
window during a low-usage period."  ProQuest databases will be unavailable from 11:00 pm local time until around midnight local time (2:00 am to 3:00 am EDT). 

Tuesday 2 May - All ProQuest databases "ProQuest Notice: ProQuest is unavailable until 7:30 pm EDT due to technical difficulties. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience. "

Saturday 29 April - Literature Resource Center  Thomson/Gale reported intermittent problems with access to their Literature Resource Center product starting at 12:45. Resolution: service was restored around 8 pm. 

Tuesday 18 April ISP Maintenance.  Our ISP will be performing scheduled maintenance between 4 am and 6 am PST on Tuesday 18 April, 2006.  This will cause some transient failures in reaching the Library web site, databases, patron authentication, and other services.  Please try again after 6 am.

Reference USA vbscript error.  Reference USA has an internal database problem starting at 10:15 am Monday 10 April.  You can log in but you cannot search.  Reference USA tech support reports they hope to have it working again by 11:30 am Pacific time.  Resolution: error resolved by vendor 11:07 am PST. 

ProQuest 8 April Maintenance window.  Proquest databases will be unavailable due to maintenance for "further optimizing system performance" for 12 hours starting 8:00 pm PST on Saturday 8 April 2006. 

Infotrac Database Maintenance scheduled for 18 December.  Please note that Thomson Gale will be upgrading a key component of its production network infrastructure between 6am and 8am on Sunday December 18th. During this time PowerSearch, Infotrac and GaleNet customers will experience sporadic interruptions to our online services during this maintenance window.

Proquest Databases Maintenance scheduled for 29 October. The next ProQuest release is scheduled for October 29th.  To perform the changes, Proquest is scheduling a maintenance window during a low-usage period. The maintenance window will begin Saturday October 29th, 2005 at 7:00 PM Pacific Time, and end at about 10:00 pm.  All Proquest databases will be impacted.

Corbis Images for Education There is a brief Corbis outage scheduled for Thursday, October 27th from 5:00 pm until approximately 6:00 pm (PDT).  The Corbis Images for Education website will not be accessible during this time.  Users will be directed to an outage notification page for the duration of the work.  This outage will only be occurring with Corbis Images for Education.

Infotrac/Gale products will have intermittent access problems Sunday 23 October from 6 am to 7 am  Pacific Time (Reported 10/19/2005)  Vendor reports: "Thomson Gale network engineers will be installing two new Cisco ethernet switches on Sunday, October 23rd between 9AM to 10AM EDT.  The additional switches will help increase capacity and redundancy to our production environment.  During these reconfigurations, customers will experience intermittent disruptions in service."

Infotrac/Gale products are Unavailable (Reported 10/10/2005 11:30 am) Screen displays: "We are unable to recognize you as having access to InfoTrac. This usually happens when we cannot recognize a network address or a library card number. The best information we have about this problem is: Failed to connect to server [29] (tpl_main)" Resolution: Vendor fixed problem by 1:00 pm. 

Corbis Images for Education (Reported 9/13/2005 10:00 am) Vendor reports: "Corbis Images for Education is currently unavailable to it's subscribers.  Engineers are actively working to correct the problem.  Thomson-Gale apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause."  Resolution: Vendor fixed problem 12:10 pm (noon)
